Skills Scotland - Inspiring the nation's youth

Event Format

Skills Scotland Aberdeen is a one day event taking place at the AECC in Aberdeen on Tuesday 29 October between 9.30 am and 3 pm. Over 2,500 visitors are expected to come along.

Inspire the nation's youth

Skills Scotland events are all about inspiring the nation’s youth about their future careers and opportunities. The events attract thousands of young people from schools, colleges, community groups and with their friends and families. At the events they can try different activities that give them a taste of the skills and challenges they will meet in a range of careers.

These activities are showcased by employers, colleges, training providers and other organisations. Activities might include wheel change challenges with students studying auto repair, pancake flipping with a hotel and hospitality team, changing a nappy with childcare trainers, building a slate roof with construction lecturers, restyling a hairdo with hairdressing academies, pedalling a dynamo to light a bulb with energy providers, fitness training with personal trainers and lots more.

The key to Skills Scotland events is getting involved to get inspired.

Learning is through experience, so visitors get to touch, taste, feel, smell, hear and most importantly try new activities and meet staff face to face, things a website, leaflet or prospectus can never do.

The events are open to anyone aged 14-19, whatever their ambitions or abilities. The events showcase the range of opportunities available to young people including modern apprenticeships, education, training, employment, internships and other options.

There are three Skills Scotland events taking place in 2013. A flagship two day exhibition takes place at SECC, Glasgow and two further one day events take place in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
